All colour images are also available as black & white prints. The b&w previews offered here are produced by simply desaturating the image via Javascript. The result is a neutral b&w preview which may appear flat or too dark/bright. Before printing, however, each image is individually assessed and adjusted for best contrast, tonal quality, and dynamic range.

Entrance gate to Sintra Castle (Palácio Nacional da Pena)
In 1840 Ferdinand II commissioned this castle to be built on the ruins of a former monastery. The architect was Wilhelm Ludwig von Eschwege who built it in the style of the Neu-Schwanstein castle in Bavaria. Since 1995 it is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
