Schwarzweiß-Vorschau

Stone dog sculpture at Kyoto`s Inari shrine
Stone dog sculpture at Kyoto`s Inari shrine
The dog-shaped sculptures at the entrance to a shrine are mythical guardians that typically come in pairs. So-called `a-hum´ pairs : one `a´ dog with an open mouth and one `hum´dog with a closed mouth. This concept originated in India where the letter `A´ is the sound of opening ones mouth and `hum´ is the sound of closing it.
